Read the Title of this post again. Your Body is a Masterpiece. When is the last time you have told yourself that?  It’s more likely that you have been saying negative things about your body and the changes that you have been seeing.

Have you also had thoughts like:

  • I will do that when I have lost the weight.
  • I can’t go to that! I don’t look good in anything that I could wear to an event like that.
  • Why does this pair of jeans look so good on that influencer and looks so terrible on me?
This year, I have really started to think about all that my body does for me. It allows me to:
  • Live and breathe without needing to think about it
  • Adapt and heal any injuries it sustains
  • Grow into a perfectly formed, symmetrical being
  • Digest food and keep what it needs and discard the rest
  • Perceive the world through our 5 senses
  • Process emotions
  • Learn and grow with an amazing mind
  • Move around without a second thought
  • Protect myself from viruses that want to harm me
  • For me,  I was gifted the ability to grow a life after many trials and tribulations
  • Experience feelings of joy
  • Connect with others deeply
  • and so many more…

So, why as my body has gone through changes, have I been angry at its appearance? I have decided to try to look and feel my best while at the same time, having gratitude for this life I have because of my body. Many are not so fortunate.

The Importance of Internal Dialogue

I am a believer in energy and that it comes back to you in the way you put it out. Maybe you have heard that if you talk nicely about your hair, it will grow. The way that we talk to our bodies makes a difference. I’m not going to go too deeply into Quantum Physics right now, but to scratch the surface, everything we see is energy. We all have a certain vibration that our energy vibrates at and due to the Law of Resonance, like attracts like.

A study on water molecules was done my Dr. Masoru Emoto. In his study, he looked at what happened to water when it was exposed to certain types of music or words. What he found is that, the water molecules did indeed change to either be beautiful and organized when lovely music was played or kind words were spoken and that the water molecules became disorganized when hard music was played or unkind words were spoken. Why does this matter for you? Well, our bodies are made up of 70% water, so what that means is that if you speak terrible thoughts to your body, your physical form will begin to take on an image of that negativity.  Here is a video if you would like to watch more about this study:

What about the Mystery that is our Body Shape?

There is no class taught it school to understand our body shape. Our parents put us in clothes or we go shopping and choose what we like or we buy something that we see online because it looks good on the influencer or the model or even our friend. We see a new style and have to have it because it’s so on-trend.
The flaw in all of this, is that it encourages us to feel badly about ourselves because we have no idea about whether the pieces we are buying are made to go with a body like ours.
When I was 17 years old, I was athletic. I was a cheerleader and aside of all of the running and jumping that I did, part of our exercise routine was weightlifting. I was 110 pounds and strong. However, when I put on my jeans…or a skirt…or a pair of shorts, I had this little roll at the top of the waistband on my sides. I thought that I was fat. But, I wasn’t. What I didn’t understand at that young impressionable age is that the clothes that I was selecting for myself were not meant for my body type.
We start the body shame at a VERY young age. I would dare to say it’s even younger than it was when I was a kid with the technology these days. At a young age, we are impressionable. Not only do we have our own experiences with our body and the comparison game, but oftentimes, without even realizing it, we would hear our mother talk negatively to herself about herself too.  This sticks with a young, impressionable, growing mind and body.

So, how do we fix it?

The key to stop the negative self-talk and to begin to appreciate our body is FIRST, to acknowledge that there is work to be done. Start noticing when you are having negative thoughts and change the pattern.
Second, it’s important to learn how to dress YOUR body. When you understand your physical form and how to find clothes that are going to complement YOUR form, it helps you to understand which styles you should pass on when you see them looking great on someone whose body is nothing like yours. It also allows you to look at the pieces you have in your closet and get rid of the ones that make you feel bad about your body.
My Body Type Blueprint program is going to help you with that second step.
