Like Meteorological Fall, the Fall Fashion Season began on September 1st. And while we are only days into September, in true fashion form, Stylists who know their stuff are actually watching runways for Spring 2025 as we speak.

Whoever came up with the term “Fashionably Late” was not actually talking about Fashion.

 Who said it?  ME!

I understand that it is still pretty hot in many places, HOWEVER, the stores are ripe and ready for the Fall shopping season and as your Stylist, I want to make sure you are ahead of the game now.

Today, I am going to share some tips with you as to how to begin to incorporate Fall into your wardrobe even though you still may be wearing sleeveless looks.

Tip 1: Incorporate colors of Fall

This is one of the easiest ways to begin transitioning your wardrobe to Fall. When you are shopping for clothes, the stores are in full fall mode. We are seeing beautiful olive greens, oxblood red, and deep chocolate colors in stores now. Begin to add these colors into your wardrobe. One thing that I love to recommend is as you shop, find sleeveless pieces in the current colors or even long-sleeved blouses that you have a plan to layer up later in the season. This makes them easy to know how you are going to wear now versus later.

Tip 2: Team with White

The old saying, “Don’t wear white after Labor Day” is an old fashion way of thinking. In a modern world, not only are we wearing white, but we are wearing tonal, monochromatic versions of white beautifully. Begin your transition into Fall by pairing some of those gorgeous Fall colors I mentioned in tip one with a pair of white straight-leg denim. It lightens up the look and gives you a gentle transition.

Tip 3: Shoe Style

Shoes have a large impact on an outfit, so you can start to wear your ankle boots now with your summer looks. Pair a neutral pair with your summer dress or skirt. This allows for longer wear of your current ankle boots, too. Keep in mind that the ankle boots you have in your closet may be dated, so you want to wear them with the current style of ankle boots in 2024.

Tip 4: Gradually add Layers

Think lightweight. You will obviously want to save your chunkier knits for later in the season, but you can begin covering your arms with layers that are in more breathable fabrics. Whether that is wearing a cardigan or a gorgeous Fall-inspired blazer, layers are a beautiful way to add interest to your outfits and begin your closet’s transition to Fall.

Tip 5: Have fun with Texture

Contrasting texture is very much happening. While we will see this with heavier knits as the temperatures really begin to cool down, begin to play with it now. Pair your finer knits (like cashmere) with your silk midi-skirts. As we stray further into September, begin to add a corduroy jacket or pant into the mix with your more luxurious fabrics. Add a suede jacket on top of your blouse as you head out the door.  Texture gives a visual interest to your outfits.

Tip 6: Add a Fall Print

This Fall season, prints are big and bold. Everything from plaid to leopard, to houndstooth and fall florals, the bigger the print, the better the styling. Begin to add some of these more Fall-forward patterns into your daily routine. It’s an easy way to begin making the Fall transition.

There you have it. My favorite tips for beginning to introduce Fall into your wardrobe right now. Before you know it, the knee high boots will be out and you will be luxuriating in soft teddy coats.

Stylishly Yours,

Michelle
